Thousands of indecent images – some of which were available for other internet users – had been catalogued by 52-year-old Stephen Poole, Wolverhampton Crown Court heard.

They featured boys and girls aged up to 17 but most were babies and toddlers, explained Mr James Dunstan, prosecuting.

Police, who raided Poole's home in Lincoln Road, Smethwick, on May 17 following a tip off, found over 8,000 indecent images on a computer tower, lap top, hard drive and USB stick, continued Mr Dunstan.

Of these, over 800 were ruled to be in the most serious category of child porn. The defendant also had 294 discs with pictures and videos of children on them.

Mr Stephen Hamblett, defending, said: "He is taking steps to get some help."

Poole, who has two sons, pleaded guilty to three charges of making indecent images and three of possession of similar images.
