Julie Beards, 36, was found guilty of manslaughter, but not guilty of the 20-year-old's murder.
A jury at Leicester Crown Court could not reach a verdict on a charge of rape and were discharged from reaching a verdict on that count.

Julie's husband Steven Beards, 34, has already been convicted of raping and murdering the vulnerable student, who also had a learning impairment.
Ms Whiting was found dead by police at Julie's bungalow in Heather Close, Bloxwich, on August 18 last year having visited her for a sleepover.
Steven Beards was being sentenced this afternoon, but his wife will be sentenced at a later date.
