Smethwick internet cafe murder: Man charged with stab killing of Horace Williams

A man has been charged with the murder of a man who was stabbed to death at a Smethwick internet cafe, as the victim was named by police as Horace Williams.

Officers were called by the ambulance service at around 12.50pm on Saturday following reports of a man with a stab wound at the Internet Cafe on Cape Hill.

The 38-year-old man was treated by medical staff but there was nothing they could do to save him and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Today carpenter Douane Brown, aged 39 from Bickington Road, Birmingham, appeared before Sandwell magistrates charged with murder and possession of a knife in public.

He was remanded in custody and will appear at Wolverhampton Crown Court tomorrow.

West Midlands Police said the victim had not been formally identified, but he was believed to be Horace Williams, aged 36 and from West Bromwich.

He died at the scene from a single stab wound.

Det Insp Justin Spanner said: "Our thoughts remain with Mr Williams' family at this sad time.

"I would urge anyone who has yet to come forward with information to assist the investigation to call my team on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
