Bungling barefoot burglar caught by five-year-old boy
A bungling burglar who struck while wearing neither shoes nor socks and stole a pair of flip flops from the house he was raiding has started a two-year jail sentence.
Ryan Edwards also collected a cable for an iPad while committing the crime – but left the iPad behind before being caught red-handed by a five-year-old child, Wolverhampton Crown Court was told.
The boy was badly upset by the confrontation but his father held the 39 year old until police arrived at the house in Ward Grove, Lanesfield, said Mr Oliver Woolhouse, prosecuting.
Mr Jon Roe, defending drug addict Edwards of Snow Hill, Wolverhampton, said: "He is clearly a very vulnerable individual who needs professional help and support."
Edwards admitted burgling the house on September 24 last year and was sent to prison by Recorder Timothy Raggatt QC.
The judge told him: "You were found in the house by a five year old boy. He was obviously terrified when he saw you.
"What you took was not of any great value but that is not necessarily the point.
"You were in a state because of your use of Class A drugs.
"You slipped quietly into the house and were actually caught in the act."
