Teenager stabbed attacker six times outside pub
A teenager lost control after being attacked – stabbing another youth six times with a knife earlier used against him, a court heard.
Violence erupted between two groups of young people outside the Star and Garter pub, West Bromwich, on June 30 this year, Wolverhampton Crown Court was told.
The 16-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was one of a group standing outside the pub while members of his family were inside.
They were approached by another group of five or six males, armed with weapons such as bats and at least one knife, the court heard.
Mr Paul Spratt, prosecuting, said disorder had quickly broken out.
"The defendant was hit across the shoulder and rib area with a bat. He recognised one of the group and gave chase," he said.
"He caught up with him and the other youth started punching him. The defendant said he had felt a sharp pain to his hand and found he had been stabbed.
"He pulled the knife from the wound."
Mr Spratt added that despite his injury the teenager continued to follow the other youth, a 15-year-old.
"The defendant lost control and used the knife to stab the other teenager on a number of occasions," he said.
Mr Spratt said the victim had suffered six stab wounds. One of them caused his right lung to partially collapse.
The defendant pleaded guilty to a charge of wounding with intent at an earlier hearing.
On Friday he was sentenced to detention at a young offenders institution for a period of two years and eight months.
Miss Sarah Buckingham, defending, said his behaviour had been 'uncharacteristic'.
