Residents living in Montgomery Walk and councillors spoke of their shock after the news of the second murder emerged.

June Powell, aged 73, a retired canteen manager who has lived nearby for 55 years, said: "Police said they found a man's body. It is a bit worrying. It is normally such a quiet neighbourhood. Nothing like this has ever happened. It is so quiet around here. It is unsettling. You just don't know what to think."

Hateley Heath ward councillor Patricia Davies, said: "It's really awful. You never think it will ever happen somewhere where you live. It is shocking. I'm very sad and shocked that two people have lost their lives. I am very concerned that anybody could lose their lives in these awful circumstances."
