Security guard attacked at Stafford petrol station
A terrified security guard was attacked by two men in a cash in transit robbery at a petrol station.
The raid took place on the forecourt of the Esso petrol station, in Lammascote Road, Stafford, in broad daylight.
Council borough council leader Mike Heenan has called the attack 'disturbing.'
It follows a raid on the Co-operative store in Penkridge last month when workers were shut in a storeroom as a gang struck.
In the latest robbery, two men arrived at the forecourt on a Honda 500 CB motorbike. One of the men, believed to be the passenger, attacked a guard and stole cash.
He was white, in his 20s, dressed in a black coat and black tracksuit bottoms and wearing a black motorbike helmet.
The rider of the motorbike was wearing a grey coat and a dark-coloured helmet.
Staffordshire Police spokesman Ian Fegan said: "Fortunately, the security guard wasn't harmed during the incident but is badly shaken."
The two men made off from the scene on the motorbike, registration BX51 MFU, which was later recovered off Riverway on the cricket and hockey club car park."
He said the motorbike had been seen near Hough Retail Park at around 1.15pm Saturday, around 15 minutes before the robbery.
Officers are also keen to speak to anyone who saw a silver and red Mitsubishi Shogun which drove through a red light on Riverway and turned left on the A34. It was driven by a white man with a shaved head who was with two other men.
Councillor Heenan, who uses the petrol station regularly, said: "This was a disturbing attack but figures show crime in Staffordshire is going down. It is one robbery too many but should be taken in the wider context."
