Man shot dead at Birmingham pub

A man was shot dead in a Birmingham pub when a gunman walked in and opened fire.

He struck in broad daylight at The Dovecote pub.

Police believe the victim was targeted in the horror at around 5.45pm yesterday.

Armed police and paramedics were called to the scene in Sheldon and the victim was given first aid but could not be saved.

The Cockshut Hill area is likely to remain closed throughout the day as investigations continue.

Chief Superintendent Alex Murray said: "We believe this may have been a targeted attack which happened in a busy pub in broad daylight.

"This would have been a shocking incident for witnesses and will have a huge impact on the local community.

"I want to reassure residents that we are working hard to find the person responsible for this attack and are following a number of lines of inquiry at this early stage."
