Daniel Sloan admitted driving a Ford Ka dangerously in Walsall Road, Cannock, last June.

He was due to stand trial at Stafford Crown Court yesterday, but changed his plea to guilty before the case got under way.

Sloan, aged 22, of Walsall Road, Great Wyrley, also admitted an offence of failing to report an accident to the police.

Judge John Wait remanded Sloan on bail for reports, but warned him: "This is a serious offence and a custodial sentence will be considered. Disqualification is mandatory."

The judge banned Sloan from driving until he is sentenced, when the length of the ban will be fixed.

Sloan was driving his Ford Ka in Walsall Road on June 2 last year when he crashed, injuring Phillip Churchill, Taylor Kingston and Graham Cavanagh.

The crash took place near the junction with St John's Road, and one of the victims was left in a serious condition.

The car reportedly mounted the kerb and hit three men as they walked along Walsall Road, at around 1.50am.

One of the victims, who was in his 40s at the time, was pushed into the sidings and was treated at the scene for head, arm and chest injuries before being taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham.

An 18-year-old suffered leg injuries and was taken to the same hospital and a man in his late 20s, who also suffered leg injuries, was taken to the University Hospital of North Staffordshire.

Police, ambulance and firefighters attended the scene near the Rising Brook car and van hire firm when the accident happened.

At the time of the crash neighbours spoke of their shock.

Manufacturing worker Steve Butler said there had been a number of accidents on the route over the years including a car ending up on its roof.
