Man, 44, charged with West Bromwich lake murder
A man today appeared in court charged with the murder of a man whose body was found floating in a lake in West Bromwich.
Jagdev Rai, aged 43, of Salisbury Road, West Bromwich, who gave his name in court as Jamie Rai, appeared before Sandwell Magistrates Court.
He has been charged with the murder of Jasbir Singh Bains, 41.
Rai is also charged with three counts of fraud and faces charges of obtaining a credit card in a false name from Nationwide between July 1, 2012 and September 30 2012, falsely obtaining a mortgage from the Alliance and Leicester to the value of £56,703 on July 15, 2010 and using a false name to gain a Toshiba TV worth £180 from mail order company Premier Man on September 5, 2012.
Rai spoke only to confirm his name, address and date of birth. He was rem-anded in custody and will appear at Wol-verhampton Crown Court on Wednesday.
The body of Mr Bains, of no fixed addr-ess, was found in Dartmouth Park lake by a park ranger early on November 28 after he saw blood on a path. When police pulled him out of the water they found a cut to the neck and launched a murder probe.
