Thief banned from Dudley shops for two years
A prolific shoplifter has been banned from entering any Spar, Boots or Co-op store across the Dudley borough for the next two years.
Leaflets featuring Richard Lawley's image are to be distributed in the area.
Anyone who spots him acting suspiciously is asked to call police.
Dudley magistrates were told Lawley, aged 33, was arrested outside Boots at the Merry Hill centre on January 3 as he tried to walk out with aftershave worth £86.50.
Lawley, of no fixed address, went on to be charged with two thefts from Spar on High Street, Lye. On September 30 he stole £42.68 worth of cheese and bacon and on October 5 he took chicken and sausages worth £15, the court heard. On December 12, he also took power tools worth £19.99 from Home Bargains in Brierley Hill, the court was told.
Magistrates convicted him of the offences and sentenced him to 40 weeks in jail. They also handed him a Criminal Anti-Social Behaviour Order (Crasbo) which prohibits him from entering any Spar, Boots and Co-operative store in Dudley borough.
Pc Lydia Howard of Dudley's Offender Management team, said: "Lawley is now in prison serving his sentence, but as soon as he is released his Crasbo will be in place and the restrictions prohibiting him entering the stores will be implemented.
"Should he try ignoring the bans, he'll be arrested and put before the court and face further punishment."
She added: "Leaflets featuring his image will also be distributed locally making everyone aware of his Crasbo and I'd encourage anyone who spots Lawley doing anything he shouldn't be to contact Dudley Police by calling 101."
