Crews respond to grass fire in Wednesbury as fire service warns of smoke near Millennium Centre
The fire service has warned to ‘avoid the area’ until further notice.
West Midlands Fire Service (WMFS) have warned to ‘avoid the area until further notice’ as they deal with a large grass blaze on Friar Park Road, Wednesbury.
The fire service reported of the blaze at 2.48pm today, warning that there is now heavy smoke behind the Millennium Centre.

A WMFS spokesperson said: “Crews are currently dealing with a large grass fire on Friar Park Road, Friar Park, Wednesbury.
“Please avoid this area until further notice.
“There is heavy smoke in the area behind the Millennium Centre.”
Three fire vehicles were at the scene, including one 4x4 fire response unit, with staff using hoses to douse the flames.
The fire was out as of 3.50pm, with a fire officer on the scene saying the incident affected ‘a patch of grass’ to the rear of the Tame Valley Medical Centre.
One resident talked of seeing a ‘pillar of smoke’ rising from behind the building, with emergency services turning up not long after.
He said: “It wasn’t actually up for that long before the fire service got here.
“I saw a pillar of smoke form where the fire was. I don’t think the heat helped it; it’s all dry grass there. It’s lucky it wasn’t worse, to be honest.”
