The Winter Pressures Fund (WPF) is managed by the Good Shepherd Wolverhampton, in partnership with Wolverhampton Council and is designed to support people who are currently homeless or at immediate risk of homelessness

By working closely with local partners such as the council, P3 Charity, SUIT and Wolverhampton Homes, the WPF works to ensure support reaches those who need it.

At the midway point, the project is already making a real difference with 52 people already being housed, with half of these having moved on from supported accommodation into private rented homes or social housing, freeing up vital spaces for others with high support needs.

Alongside securing housing, the WPF delivers ongoing tenancy sustainment and prevention work to ensure lasting outcomes.

The fund has supported people with complex needs, including those with mental health challenges, survivors of domestic abuse, and individuals facing mobility or pet-related barriers with housing.

One beneficiary of the fund was Lindsey, with the stable accommodation secured through the fund enabling her to be reunited with her daughter.

Shaz, Keyworker at the Good Shepherd who supported Lindsey, said: “As soon as I met Lindsey, I could see she a was smart determined lady. We managed to secure a tenancy with a new landlord.

“Good Shepherd supported with the deposit and rent in advance through the Winter Pressure Fund. The accommodation is superb and within a few days Lindsey had made it into a home for her and her daughter.”

Lindsey said: “Without the support I’ve received for my housing, there's no way I’d afford to stay where we live. It's local to the school, local to the Good Shepherd, so, there's no travel expenses or anything.

"But like I say, without that help financially, we wouldn't be in a property that we're in now, it's great.

“We've got our own home and everything, it's just amazing. Looking back 12 months ago, I would never see myself here now, and I wouldn’t be here without the support.”

To date, the Winter Pressures Fund had achieved 59 positive outcomes with individuals either housed or prevented from becoming homeless.

Through a collaborative approach, efficient referral processes, and tailored support, the fund continues to make a significant contribution to the people of Wolverhampton.

Councillor Steve Evans, Wolverhampton Council Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for City Housing, said: “Being able to support our local people and offer help when they need it most is incredibly important.

"That is why we are very proud to be working with the Good Shepherd to deliver the Winter Pressures Fund.

“Through finding and securing accommodation, helping people to avoid evictions or supporting those with complicated circumstances, this project is making a positive difference to very many lives.”
