Business couple launch sustainable and ethical clothing

A recent holiday on spectacular shores of the beautiful island of Skiathos, inspired locally-based business people Richard and Caroline Joyce to set up Kanula, a national ethical and sustainable clothing brand which supports the nesting beaches of sea turtles.

With a focus on helping to protect the planet and contributing to the welfare of turtles, which sadly receive little support, Kanula from its factory and warehouse base on Conduit Road in Norton Canes produces stylish garments designed to stand the test of time, while encouraging fair treatment for all. Using no plastic waste materials which often result in polluting the oceans and harming sea life, Kanula is proud to offer slow fashion with fast delivery.

For every purchase, a donation of eight per cent goes directly to the Sea Turtle Conservancy, one of the world’s oldest sea turtle conservations run by a small team of passionate people.

The benevolent couple are no stranger to the clothing industry, and have been running a garment distribution firm supplying largely education and retail businesses since 2007, however this latest venture comes from a personal passion that was developed during lock-down, allowing vital time to design the collections and the website, and put the various business processes in place.

Kanula co-founder Richard Joyce explains: “The vibrant colours of the Greek landscape and the bright abstract ceramic designs on plates and vases found on every facade inspired us to create a fun and vibrant brand which reflected the lifestyle and energy that the Island projected. During our travels across Greece we slowly became aware of the nesting beaches of turtles and sadly discovered that they aren't given enough support from charitable organisations. We decided we wanted to help in a meaningful way and decided to set up a clothing brand specifically to raise funds to help the turtles which we decided to call Kanula.”

Richard continues: “Our vision for Kanula is that it is fully sustainable and ethical which focuses on giving back to the planet instead of shareholders and in doing so, we concentrated on producing no plastic waste materials which often end up polluting the oceans and harming sea life like turtles.”

The range includes versatile garments such as hoodies, organic t-shirts, sweatshirts, vests and tote bags for both adults and children, in an array of colours and featuring one of 26 unique designs. Kanula also has a collection of accessories including necklaces, key rings and teddy bears.
