Expert to talk on GDPR

With four months to go until the UK's new general data protection regulation comes into effect, Stafford's technology public relations agency Stone Junction is using humour to help people understand the importance of the new rules.

Managing director Richard Stone will present on the subject at the Staffordshire Chambers of Commerce's marketing and networking event on February 9 from 8amto10am.

Mr Stone will be using a different business hero to characterise the rights of the individual under the new rules.

GDPR, which represents one of the biggest shifts in the way organisations protect personal data, will come into force from May 25.

Mr Stone will be presenting on the inalienable rights of the individual under the new rules and what this means for marketers as GDPR comes into effect.

"One of the heroes I will use to explain the rights of the individual under GDPR is Ghandi, who taught us that one should 'be the change you want to see in the world'. This underlying theme of empathy in this example illustrates how we as marketers need to empathise with how our customers feel — as well as how we feel ourselves — when we receive marketing material. We should treat other people’s data as if it’s our own.

"By understanding these characterisations in a fun and humorous way, I hope that I can help businesses become compliant with the new rules, while also changing the way they market themselves and behaving in a way that adapts and responds well to their audience," explained Mr Stone.

Registration and refreshments will begin at 8am and the event will run to 10am, consisting of presentations by other speakers including networking specialist Mike Grocott who will deliver hints and tips on becoming a great networker.

The marketing and networking event will be held at Commerce House in Stoke-on-Trent and is open to members and non-members.

To sign up for the event, visit the Chambers of Commerce website or call the membership team on 01782 202222.
