Stourbridge shopping centre saw increased festive footfall as customers 'shopped locally right up to the last minute'
Stourbridge’s Ryemarket shopping centre saw a rise in footfall over the festive season, showing people chose to “shop locally right up to the last minute”.
From Christmas lights switch-on day (November 22) through to Christmas Eve (December 24) footfall across the centre increased by 4.3 per cent year on year, the shopping centre's bosses have revealed.
The final run-up to Christmas proved especially strong, Ryemarket centre manager Aaron Powell said, with the two days immediately before Christmas Day up by 33.7 per cent and 28.1 per cent respectively.
He said the figures demonstrate “shoppers were very much still choosing to shop locally right up to the last minute”.
Despite cold and wet weather conditions on the day of the Christmas lights switch-on, the Ryemarket welcomed 46.2 per cent more visitors compared to the same Saturday in 2024, which Mr Powell said was a “fantastic result” that “really set a positive tone for the season”.
