The move could affect jobs across the West Midlands where it has several venues including in Norton Cains, Birmingham’s New Street station, Walsall, Stourbridge and Kidderminster.

Leon, which runs 44 company-owned restaurants and a further 22 franchise outlets, serves light bites such as sandwiches, wraps, burgers and salad boxes.

At this stage, Leon has not specified how many of its restaurants it plans to close nor how many job losses there might be and where.

The group has hired advisers from Quantuma to lead a major restructuring of the chain after applying for an administration order.

It said it would then form proposals for a company voluntary arrangement restructuring plan in order to overhaul its operations to help secure the brand’s long-term future.

Co-founder John Vincent bought the business back from Asda in October, four years after it was taken over by the billionaire Issa brothers.

Leon was founded in 2004 by Mr Vincent, Allegra McEvedy and Henry Dimbleby, son of renowned broadcast journalist David.
