While Marks & Spencer is closing cafes in some of its food halls as part of a shake-up, Merry Hill shopping centre has just welcomed a new standalone M&S Coffee Shop.

The new venture, located on the Lower Mall in the former event space in the centre of the shopping complex in Brierley Hill, was officially opened this week following the reveal of Marks & Spencer's (M&S) extended fresh market-style foodhall in August.

Customers can tuck into freshly cooked breakfast rolls, toasties, wraps, sausage rolls sandwiches, cakes and pastries at the new 92-seater Coffee Shop which has a fresh, modern design and features a range of seating from banquette to high stools.

The new menu also includes a selection of barista-made coffee, hot and iced drinks – including M&S’s brand-new Cinnamon Crunch latte, made specially for autumn.

Elise Lewis, deputy store manager at M&S Merry Hill, said: “We are so excited to launch our brand-new coffee shop and the feedback from customers has been brilliant.

"Our new menu offers a range of delicious food and drink and my personal favourite, the Vanilla Matcha Latte, is a must try. Located in the Lower Mall, we are the perfect place for a pit stop mid-shopping and the countdown is on for our full store transformation to be ready. A massive thanks to our 18-strong Coffee Shop team who have done a great job of getting everything ready for opening week.”

Merry Hill is one of 12 M&S stores across the UK this financial year undergoing a renewal, and the store’s transformed fashion and beauty offer is due to launch next month.

The Coffee Shop is open between 8am and 6pm Monday to Saturday and between 10am and 4.30pm Sunday.

Jonathan Poole, centre manager at Merry Hill, said: “We can confirm the new M&S café is now open at Merry Hill, and can be found outside the store on the ground floor. We look forward to announcing full details of the new concept store imminently.”

The new Coffee Shop bucks the trend as M&S pushes ahead with a closure programme for 11 of its cafes in its smaller food stores as part of a £300 million investment to increase food hall space as it looks to make space for more popular products in smaller food stores to modernise the food business.
