'What a shame, great beer and memories' - readers say as beloved Banks's Brewery stops brewing ahead of impending closure
People from across Wolverhampton and beyond have been sharing their memories of their beloved Banks’s Brewery which has brewed its final brew ahead of closure later this month.
The historic brewery, a major employer in Wolverhampton, ceased brewing operations at the end of August - with the last workers expected to vacate the site on September 30.
Fans of Banks’s Bitter and Mild, former brewery workers and people across Wolverhampton have been sharing their memories of the iconic Banks’s Brewery in Brewery Road which has stood tall above the city skyline for 150 years.
Many have expressed their sadness at the news brewing has now ceased and the brewery is to be decommissioned.
Commenting on Facebook as the news broke, Brian Ambler said it was a “sad day” - adding: “I used to love going past there and smelling the hops.”

Anthony Dixon said: “Very sad news for the people of Wolverhampton and the workforce of the brewery, many of whom have spent their working life there - a very sad day indeed.”
While Lynda Webb added: “Such a shame, part of my growing up years remembering the lovely brewing smell around Chapel Ash.”
