End of an era as former Pargeter's furniture shop in Stourbridge High Street is sold after 99 years
An era is ending for Stourbridge High Street with the completion of the sale of a former furniture shop that had graced the town for nearly 100 years.
Hexagon Commercial Property has announced the successful off-market sale of the landmark former John Pargeter & Sons premises at the top of High Street.
Pargeter's was one of the town's longest-standing family businesses, having traded for 99 years.

The much-loved furniture store had been a staple in Stourbridge since 1926.
Owner Miles Pargeter made the difficult decision to retire and close the business, bringing nearly a century of trading to a close.
Hexagon said the property was sold off-market to a well-known local investor who plans to sympathetically redevelop the site into three new retail units on the ground floor.
Hexagon has been retained to market the new shops and has reported strong early interest from a range of retail and food and beverage operators.
Harvey Pearson, of Hexagon Commercial Property, said: "It has been a privilege to handle the sale of such a well-known and historically significant building.
"Pargeter's has played a huge role in the fabric of Stourbridge town centre for generations, and we’re proud to have helped bring about a new chapter for the premises.
"The proposed redevelopment will inject fresh energy into this part of the High Street, and we’re already seeing encouraging demand from quality operators.”
Reflecting on the closure and sale, Miles Pargeter said: “After almost 100 years and four generations of my family running the business, it felt like the right time to step away. It’s been a huge part of my life and I’m grateful for the support of our loyal customers over the years.
"I’m pleased the building will continue to serve the town and look forward to seeing it evolve in its next chapter."
The retail units are expected to be available to lease within the coming months from Hexagon Commercial Property.
