'Another nail in the town centre's coffin' - Sadness as news of Marks & Spencer closure in Wolverhampton sinks in
People have been reacting with sadness to the news that Wolverhampton’s Marks & Spencer store is to close after nearly 100 years in the city centre.
Staff at the store in Dudley Street were told the devastating news on Tuesday, M&S told the Express & Star yesterday.
It’s understood M&S is working with Wolverhampton Council to try to find an alternative site for a new food store in Wolverhampton but no site has yet been identified.
Cherry Shine, from Wolverhampton BID, said of the closure news: "It's a real shame we'll be losing another strong brand from our high street.
“I know the M&S team have been in contact with the council to understand what's going to happen with the building.

"It's a real shame but it's not just a Wolverhampton situation, it's something that's happening nationally
"We will work together to try to ensure we have the best possible high street for our city centre."
