Markets at Bilston, Wednesfield and Wolverhampton are set to become fully operational after the third and final phase of reopening the Wolverhampton Council markets was agreed by council officials.

The decision to move to phase three from Tuesday, June 23, comes after a high-level of compliance from stall holders and visitors during the staged re-opening, as well as feedback from regular market users.

It means stall holders who did not fall into phase one or two of the reopening process have been invited to start trading again, including casual traders who must ensure social distancing measures are in place.

Councillor Steve Evans, Wolverhampton Council cabinet member for environment, said strict measures had been put in place at the markets to make sure government guidance is adhered to.

He said: “Stall holders have been contacted and advised that they are welcome to return, but only if it’s safe for them to do so.”

Customers are being encouraged to pay using contactless to reduce the amount of cash being handled by staff.
