The 26-year-old woman was shoved into the water by a group of around eight to 10 youngsters near Edgbaston Park Road, Birmingham.

The incident took place on the stretch of canal between University and Five Ways on Friday at around 6.30pm.

The group, described as white and mixed race males aged 14 to 16, stopped at the side of the towpath – but pushed the woman in as she passed.

They then cycled off laughing, heading away from the city centre, leaving the victim to pull herself out of the water.

Police believe a second female cyclist was pushed into the water in the same area – with other reports on social media of similar incidents.

An investigation has been launched into the issue with regular patrols of the area being carried out.
