It contributed to an overall record-breaking month for the airline, carrying more than 265,000 passengers out of the UK.

This has become an increasingly important market for Emirates since 1987, when it first started operating in the UK and carried 4,000 passengers that July.

Emirates has been operating in Birmingham since 2000, when it carried just under 70,000 passengers in its first full year.

The airport is of growing importance to the airline thanks to its strategic position in the Midlands, allowing both visitors and businesses to travel to Dubai and beyond from the heart of the UK.

Emirates is on track to carry five million passengers between the UK and Dubai in the 2017-2018 financial year, making it a record year for the airline.

Laurie Berryman, UK vice-president of Emirates, said: “July has been a phenomenal month for us and we are so pleased to have carried over 40,000 people from Birmingham to Dubai. Adding our second daily A380 to this route from October, further shows our commitment to this important route for us.

“With 265,000 passengers carried from the UK in July and 30 successful years under our belts, we look forward to the future and to more records being smashed.”
