The two homebuilders – Barratt with its regional office in Halesowen and David Wilson in Shirley – raised a total of £20,309.30 as a result of a sportsman’s dinner in 2016. Both companies then donated an additional £10,000 each to the cause, meaning a total of £40,309.30.

Amanda Smallman, corporate partnerships manager at Acorns Children’s Hospice said, “We’re so grateful to Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes for this significant donation and all the staff for their enthusiasm and commitment to the cause.

"We need to raise nearly £10 million every year to continue, so the money will make a massive difference for the children and families who rely on our care.”

Kirsty White, corporate partnerships officer at Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity, said: “We are incredibly thankful to Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes for supporting our £3.65 million Star Appeal, which will build the UK’s first Rare Diseases Centre for children.

“This new centre will, for the first time, bring together a team of experts from all the different specialties across our hospital under one roof to provide coordinated care for our children and young people affected by rare diseases.

“Thanks to this fantastic donation we are now one step closer to making our patients’ and families’ dreams a reality.”

Adrian Farr, managing director of Barratt Homes West Midlands, said: “We were glad to be able to raise this money for the children in the care of Acorns Hospice and Birmingham Children’s Hospital, and hope it goes towards improving the lives of many.”

John Fitzgerald, managing director of David Wilson Homes Mercia, added: “This is a very important cause which we felt compelled to help with, as it is our duty as responsible homebuilders to help build communities and not just new homes.”

Barratt Homes West Midlands is currently building new homes at The Lyng in West Bromwich, Norton Farm in Bromsgrove and Oak Hill Mews in Wednesbury. David Wilson Homes Mercia is building at Baggeridge Village in Sedgley and at Woodthorne in Wolverhampton.
