Calibre starts work on steel firm's new base

Staffordshire business Calibre Construction has been been awarded the contract to build the new manufacturing and warehousing facility for a steel processor in Wolverhampton.

As main contractor Calibre is undertaking the design, supply and installation of all associated works including ground improvement at the Mammoth Drive site of Sherwood Stainless Steel (Service Centre) on Wolverhampton Science Park.

Phase one of the 12,500 sq ft development started in early October with both phase one and two scheduled for completion by April next year.

Calibre's managing director Phil Miles, is coming up to his 40th year in the construction industry.

He said: "The six-figure project will see us employing up to 20 local people on it.

"While we employ about six people full time we use a lot of local sub-contractors on our projects."

Calibre, founded in 1995, was originally best known for supplying and installing steel-framed buildings and cladding components.

In recent years it has extended its operation to the complete construction and over the last four years the company has been involved in creating more than 380,000 sq ft of new business space at the Calibre Business Park in Four Ashes where it has its head office – at Modular Court on Enterprise Drive.

Calibre was also involved in the development of the new manufacturing and head office for Quest 4 Alloys at The Crescent, Willenhall, which was completed in March

It undertook the design supply and installation of all associated ground works including ground improvement through to the supply and installation of structural steelwork, cladding and doors.
