Part of international food manufacturing and marketing specialist BHJ A/S Denmark, this Black Country firm has more than 30 years' experience of developing a wide range of functional protein products which are easy to use, manufactured with no additives and neutral in taste and colour, ensuring that they can be used for a range for numerous meat applications.
Its pork ingredients, for example, are widely used by manufacturers in the UK and the rest of the world in sausages, burgers and ready meals to improve the juiciness of the meat and overall eating quality. They can also make ham easier to slice. Richard Parnell, BHJ UK's sales director, said: "Whilst consumers demand higher and higher quality at ever keener prices, we recognise producers are expected to deliver premium quality at an economy price. To support these challenges, we've produced a range of meat ingredients that help reduce formulation costs and increase production throughput without compromising on quality."
A commitment to outstanding food safety and hygiene is central to BHJ's philosophy. The company, which employs 69 people, was recently awarded the European Food Safety Inspection Service (EFSIS) Higher Level accreditation for the 12th year running, and it adheres to a strict quality control regime. "We regard food safety and hygiene as our number one priority, and we are constantly striving to improve our production methods to ensure we remain at the top of our industry," said Mr Parnell.
The firm is also recognised for its innovation. It recently became the first producer in its sector to be certified as an approved supplier of Brit-ish Quality Assured Pork (BQAP) after being awarded the coveted standard for its highly successful Drinde range of functional proteins.
BHJ UK's ability to deliver cost-effective solutions has enabled the business to grow significantly in recent years. Turnover has risen by 20 per cent in three years.
