Jobs joy at ex-Clancey site
A multi-million pound scheme aimed at bringing back almost 200 jobs to a former Cradley foundry site has been given the green light by councillors.
A multi-million pound scheme aimed at bringing back almost 200 jobs to a former Cradley foundry site has been given the green light by councillors.
Clancey, on the corner of Saltbrook Road and Mogul Lane closed last year leaving hundreds of workers jobless.
New owner Revelan Estates cleared the site and submitted plans for three new industrial units. The scheme was approved at a meeting of Dudley Council's development control committee last night.
Officers had recommended the proposals should receive the go ahead despite residents' concerns the development would be a "monstrosity" which would ruin the landscape.
Councillors had postponed a decision because they wanted to visit the site before approving the plan.
The approval comes after work started on another former Clancey foundry in Belle Vale, Halesowen, earlier this year.
Developer Kendrick Homes was granted permission for 87 homes there in April.
The Walsall-based firm was given the go-ahead to build 40 houses and 47 flats on the site despite high levels of methane gas which seeped into the ground during the time the factory produced car parts.
