Sunday shopping will be been given a vital boost when the first car boot sale to be held in a Kidderminster car park gets under way tomorrow.

Shoppers are expected to flock to the event, which is being run by the Swan Centre to help lure more people into the town on the quietest trading day of the week.

At the moment only around a third of the shops open their doors on a Sunday but organisers are hoping that if the car boot proves popular more may follow suit. Centre manager Ros Darby said: "We are very close to being fully booked and have had a lot of bookings for the next one.

"Car boot sales are traditionally very busy and if people are coming in to look at the car boot, hopefully afterwards they will walk around the town."

Wyre Forest District Council gave the go-head for the sales to take place on 51 Sundays a year, with the exception of Easter Sunday.

The next one will take place on November 18.

Sellers must be on site between 6.45am and 7.30 am to set up their stalls and the sale will be open to the public from 8.30am until 1pm.

Normal car parking charges will apply.
