Staff at M&G Trailers, in Hayes Lane, Lye, were made redundant after being given the shock news the site will close.

Administrators PricewaterhouseCoopers are overseeing closure of the site which has been operating in Lye for more than 40 years.

Around 10 members of staff are being kept on in the short-term to assist in the closure.

The gates of the business were today shut with no one at the site willing to make any comment.

Stunned workers are due to discuss possible tribunal action, claiming unfair dismissal and a lack of consultation.

M&G's parent company, which comprised of Boalloy Holdings Ltd, Boalloy Industries and Boalloy Fastruck Ltd, has also gone into administration.

M&G Trailers was taken over by Boalloy in the mid-1990s.

Jo Shaw, who is overseeing closure of the site for the administrators, said they would do all they could to assist workers.

"We took over administration of the firm on Monday along with the parent company," she said.

"Unfortunately the majority of staff were made redundant on the same day.

"This site will be closing in the near future and some staff have stayed on to help prepare for that.

"I do not yet know the full situation however the firm did not have the assets to cover its debts."

Tom Keogh, regional organiser for the Amicus arm of the Unite union, said: "The company has been going through some changes in the last year but this has come out of the blue.

"I will be meeting with around 30 of the workers at the factory gates on Thursday to discuss their possible tribunal action for a claim of unfair dismissal and lack of consultation."
