The rubbish-strewn site of a former Kidderminster carpet factory looks set to be transformed into a new multi-million pound housing development.

The derelict 2.4-acre site in Franchise Street, which used to be the former Quayle Carpets Factory, has been earmarked for a complex of 84 new homes, 25 of which will be affordable.

The scheme has been proposed by Miller Homes West Midlands Ltd, and its bosses believe the complex will transform the site into a buzzing residential area.

Planning officers have recommended the scheme for approval when it goes before Wyre Forest District Council's development control committee on Tuesday.

If the application is successful, Miller Homes has proposed to make a financial contribution to improve educational facilities in the area, along with a £55,000 donation to develop public open spaces and nearly £3,000 for transport improvements.

Nearby residents have given the scheme the thumbs-up following a consultation exercise earlier this year.

More than 500 householders were encouraged to have their say about the scheme and, of the 76 people who replied, 71 per cent said they approved of it.
