Fifty new jobs have been created by a major revamp at a Stafford supermarket.

The new-look Asda store will offer a home delivery service, an optician's, photo shop and pharmacy.

Work has also included refurbishment of the restaurant, delicatessan and frozen food sections, plus re-arrangement of the aisles.

A large map is being put up at the entrance to guide customers around the shop's new layout.

Work has been carried out over the last month and is due to be complete by the end of October.

The scheme has limited opening hours from 8am to 10pm each day but, once finished, the Queensway store will return to its usual 24-hour opening.

Events co-ordinator Sherif Hegazy said the expansion of services had led to 50 new jobs.

"We are still recruiting new people from the local community," he said.

"Many new services, shops and facilities in-store are being added for customers, and the three new sections will all offer extremely competitive prices."

He said Asda Stafford would start home delivery services by mid-November, with a new fleet of lorries and drivers. There are also four new self check-outs, to save customers from having to stand in a queue.

New sections include the optician's, which has already opened, where specially trained staff can offer advice to customers who can order their glasses and contact lenses there.

The photo shop - due to open by the end of this month - will provide a range of services, including developing normal and digital pictures, enlargements, reprints, editing and photo gifts. A new pharmacy section is already open to customers.
