Birmingham man, 61, convicted of drug crimes after originally claiming he had been framed

A man from Birmingham has been convicted of drug crimes.

A man from Birmingham who originally claimed he’d been framed after police officers caught him with drugs and a weapon has been convicted.

Last year January, Orville Tulloch, 61 was stopped by police officers carrying out a suspected drug deal.

West Midlands Police say Tulloch attempted to run away from officers and also destroy the drug evidence while evading officers.

He wasn’t able to escape despite “punching” an officer’s chest.

Tulloch was arrested at the scene and was charged with possession with intent to supply Class A and assaulting an emergency worker.

In addition to this, Tulloch was connected to a separate incident (which took place a month prior) which was having mamba with intent to supply and an offensive weapon. The offensive weapon was a meat cleaner.

Originally, Tulloch denied all charges and said he had been framed.

In court, he was questioned on whether “he was the unluckiest man in the world” as he was found with drugs that weren’t his, on two separate occasions.

Nonetheless, after a Birmingham Crown Court trial, Tulloch, of Offenham Covert, Birmingham, was found guilty on all counts last Friday (July 17).

Tulloch was remanded in custody ahead of being sentenced in October.

PC Victoria Gaunt, from Operation Fearless at West Midlands Police said: “Our team follow their instincts, and are skilled in spotting the signs of drug dealing.

“Despite claiming the drugs weren’t his, the jury saw through his denials, and it was clear that he was involved in supplying drugs.

"He showed how dangerous he was by carrying a weapon and assaulting a police officer, and we are pleased he has been brought to justice.”

Tom Lyons, Detective Inspector from Operation Fearless at West Midlands Police said: “We’ve seen first-hand the harm that drugs bring to communities, which is why we’re so committed to targeting dealers.

“We’re constantly listening to concerns from the community and we’re acting on their information.

“If you have intelligence to share with us, please get in touch.”
