Bilston pub praised as true one-off after being named on top 100 European pub list
A Bilston pub praised as a true one-off has been named as one of the top 100 pubs across Europe by a pub and beer guide.
The Trumpet on Bilston High Street been ranked 23rd in a top 100 list produced by the European Bar Guide, which has featured bars from as far away as North Macedonia and Finland on the list.
The Trumpet showed 9.5 out 10 on the European Beer Guide rating and finished higher on the list of British pubs than pubs in Liverpool, Glasgow, Edinburgh and London, with only the Holly Bush Inn in Belper in Derbyshire finishing higher.
In the description of the Trumpet, the European Beer Guide said the pub was close to being one of the finest pubs in England and spoke about what people could see as they walked in.
The guide said: "A one-off and certainly close to being the finest pub in England, this jazz bar combines amazing decor, with jazz antiques and memorabilia perfectly complimenting a beautifully ageing wood fit bunker-like pub with bench seating and carpets.
"Live performances feature almost daily, with tips + raffle surcharge to pay for those."
It said the Trumpet carried three cask beers from local breweries, as well as a number of mainstream drink options and a selection of spirits and described the style of the pub as "A one room jazz den with memorabilia on the walls, highly personalised and wonderful ageing of the wood fittings, with rich green painted wood strip ceiling with lamps."
