24 hours of road chaos - Three crashes stop West Midlands commuters in their tracks

Three separate crashes were been reported between Sunday night and Monday morning in the West Midlands and Shrewsbury, leading to many struggling to make it to their destinations

The first collision took place on Sunday (November 10) night at 6pm, seeing a car collide with a Tesco Extra on Queen Square, West Bromwich.

Luckily, no one was seriously injured in the incident, however, one man - the driver - was assessed for minor injuries before being discharged at the scene.

Charlotte Richardson, who was on her way back from a meal with her family, said: "Sure what is happening up West Brom tonight, but a car looks like it has gone through the side of Tesco.

"There were around four or five vehicles, with police, fire and ambulance all up there."

Another incident, this time in Shropshire, saw a lorry knockdown an overhead powerline on Monday (11), only hours after another lorry crash into a pub.

Emergency services teams rushed to the scene of Pulley Lane, in Bayston Hill, on the A49 near Shrewsbury. The crash resulted in a power cut for around 28 customers, with an estimated power restoration time of 10pm.

Only hours prior, another crash took place that saw a lorry come into collision with two buildings, a pub and another building near a Chinese takeaway.

The incident was first reported at 6.30am on Monday morning and led to the driver of the HGV having to be cut from the vehicle by Shropshire Fire Service personnel.

Two ambulances, two paramedic officers and a Midlands Air Ambulance Critical Care car from Cosford were sent to the scene, on arrival, discovering a male patient who had received potentially serious injuries.

Sadly, the Three Fishes pub and the other building were heavily damaged in the incident, with the pub owner saying they would be closed 'for the foreseeable future'.

Another crash in Telford saw a family home nearly ruined after a high-powered performance car smashed into the West Midlands home.

The incident happened at 10.30am on Sunday and saw a BMW hit a semi-detached house off the B5061 Holyhead Road in Ketley.

Daniel Watkins described the state of the house when he saw it shortly after the crash.

He said: "When I was walking past, I saw there were quite a few police cars, ambulances and fire engines where the road had been taped off.

"The state of the house when looking up close looked extremely bad as the front door is completely twisted and most likely off its hinges."

Luckily no one was harmed in the incident, however, a man - the driver of the BMW - declined assessment and was discharged at the scene.

Two occupants of the house were also discharged at the scene.
