Cannabis farm related fires decrease in the West Midlands four years after hitting peak, figures show
The number of incidents linked to cannabis cultivation attended by West Midlands Fire Service has fallen just four years on from reaching its peak - but has not returned to its lowest level.
Fire service figures show callouts tagged with “cannabis” have declined since 2021, when the service recorded its highest total of the past 10 years.
Data released by West Midlands Fire Service under the Freedom of Information Act revealed firefighters responded to 308 incidents tagged with “cannabis” between 2015 and 2025, including fires, electrical faults and other emergencies at properties believed to be used for cultivation.
The number of incidents peaked in 2021 with 41 callouts, rising sharply from 27 in 2019 and 29 in 2020. Numbers remained high in 2022 (40) before falling to 34 in 2023.
While figures have remained lower in 2024 and 2025, with 22 each year, the figures have not returned to the lowest point (2018 - 16).
