Jury deliberating in Burntwood baby death case

The jury in the case of the death of baby Darcy-Leigh Jefferson from Burntwood are deliberating at Stafford Crown Court.

Five-week-old Darcy-Leigh died from significant head injuries in hospital after being found not breathing at an address in Hudson Drive, Burntwood on March 27, 2022.

The jury in the six week trial has heard evidence the baby suffered 47 rib fractures and fractures to both legs along with bleeding to the back of her eyes. .

On Monday,  they were instructed by trial judge Mrs Justice Bremmer KC to return not guilty verdicts against Amy Clark for the murder and manslaughter of her daughter.

She was originally standing trial alongside Darcey-Leigh's father Sean Jefferson, of Lichfield Road, Rushall. 

He denies murder, denies manslaughter and denies causing or allowing death.
