Firearms arrest after incident in Lye High Street

A man has been arrested after police were called to Lye High Street to reports of someone carrying a gun.

The road was cordoned off and the number 9 bus through Lye was diverted for more than an hour as a result of the incident, which happened before 1.45pm today (March 4).

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: "We were called to Lye High Street shortly before 1.45pm this afternoon to reports of someone with a gun.

"Firearms officers were sent to the scene and carried out a full search, and no weapon was found.

"A man aged 50 was arrested on suspicion of firearms offences, and remains in custody this afternoon.

A spokesperson for the West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 1.31pm to reports of an incident on High Street, Lye. 

"One ambulance attended the scene. Upon arrival no patients were found at the scene requiring treatment and we were stood down.”
