A new BBC drama filmed and produced in the West Midlands is expected to air this spring.
Commissioned by the BBC, The Hairdresser Mysteries is a six 45-minute series and it uses various locations in and around the West Midlands. It is reportedly expected to air this spring.
According to the BBC The Hairdresser Mysteries is an original, homegrown drama created by Internationally acclaimed playwright and screenwriter Jim Cartwright. Explaining the new drama, the BBC says: “It is a nostalgic nod to the 70s which sees a high-end hairdresser, Lily Petal, opt out of the competitive city scene to buy a small village hairdressers at the top of a cobbled street.
“Everyone tells their hairdresser everything and soon she is at the hub of her new village’s secrets and revelations, and with her own brand of uncannily highly developed, hairdressing intuitive empathy and understanding, solves the village mysteries.” Sally Phillips takes the lead-role of Lily Petal. She is best known for starring in Bridget Jones’s Diary and the role of Tilly in the TV series Miranda.

Filming started in September last year. One of the locations for the drama is the Warwickshire town Alcester.
The hero filming location is Church House in Butter Street which has been turned into the 1970s-style hairdressing salon run by Lily Petal. Mark and Kath Cargill, who live at Bridge House in Oversley Green, had their home chosen as a key location.
Television crews were also spotted filming scenes at a bingo hall in Worcester and a fish and chip shop in Redditch last year. Pictures showed trailers, caravans, minibuses at Perdiswell Leisure Centre's car park in Worcester on 1 October.
One of the executive producers told Worcester News at the time: “We are only in Worcester for the day, but we are filming in and around the West Midlands and based in Stratford-upon-Avon. Today (October 1), we are filming at the bingo hall."
Film crews were spotted outside Batchley Road Fish Bar, which has been renamed for the show, in Redditch. The fish and chip shop told customers it would be closed on September 24 2025 whilst filming took place on the premises.
