Zeshan Afzal, aged 18, was discovered with serious stab wounds following a disorder that erupted outside of the Jamia Masjid, off Oldbury Road, Smethwick, just before 9pm on Friday, February 20.

West Midlands Ambulance Service battled to save the 18-year-old, who is reported to have been from Smethwick, but sadly, he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Now, more than 24 hours following the killing, tributes of flowers lay at the scene, with community members continuing to pay their heartfelt respects. 

Sophia Kaur, aged 38, of Wednesbury, said: "It's terrible, it's shaken us all really. We are a loving community. It's so sad that it's happened here.

"We just can't believe that it has happened."
