Why Wolves could face almost four-week break between games if Arsenal clash moved

Wolves’ Premier League fixture with Arsenal will be brought forward to February if the London club reach the Carabao Cup final.

Rob Edwards’ side were due to face Arsenal at Molineux on Saturday, March 21, which is the same weekend as the cup final at Wembley.

Arsenal are 3-2 up against Chelsea from their semi-final first leg and if they progress in their second leg tie, which will be played on February 3, then their trip to face Wolves will be moved.

The new date for the game will be Wednesday, February 18, with an 8pm kick-off time, and broadcast live on Sky Sports.

The Express & Star understands that Wolves are very disappointed with the decision and that the club were pushing for it to be rearranged later in the season.

Due to the international break at the end of March, Wolves will need to get to the quarter-final of the FA Cup to avoid a near four-week break between matches, if the Arsenal game is moved. Wolves face Grimsby in the fourth round next month and they would need to win that, and the fifth round tie in early March, to avoid a long break.

If Wolves do not progress in the FA cup and the Arsenal game is moved, Wolves will play against Brentford on March 16 but then not play again until April 11 in a trip to West Ham.
