Major road closed after crash near Dudley Russells Hall Hospital involving person and vehicle

A major road leading to Dudley's Russell Hall Hospital has been closed after a crash involving a person and a vehicle.

The A4101 Kingswinford Road was closed in both directions this afternoon (Thursday, January 29). 

The closure caused heavy congestion stretching from Tennyson Street to the A461 Stourbridge Road. 

Police, fire crews and paramedics, were seen at the scene near the junction with High Street.

West Midlands Fire Service have said they were they were 'called at to the scene of an RTC involving a vehicle and pedestrian at 12.01pm, Thurs 29 Jan on Kingswinford Rd near the hospital.

'Three fire and rescue crews attended. Road closed while we and partner agencies continue to work at the scene.'

The service confirmed the incident has been passed on to police.

Buses have been diverted away from the scene.

Public transport operator Diamond Bus Midlands said: "226 Service update.

"Due to a major accident near Russells  Hall hospital we are having to divert the 226 service.

"We will be unable to serve the stops on Kingswinford Road between Scotts Green Island (Pegasus Island) and Russells Hall Island, we will be diverting via Stourbridge Road and Pensnett Road."

A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “We were called at around midday to a road traffic collision involving a pedestrian and a bus at the junction of Kingswinford Road and the A4101 in Dudley.

"Two ambulances, a paramedic officer, the WMAS Critical Care Car and a BASICS emergency doctor attended the scene. Upon arrival we found a man who was the pedestrian.

"Sadly, it was clear that nothing could be done to save him and he was confirmed deceased by ambulance staff at the scene. A second patient who was the driver of the bus was assessed and conveyed to Russells Hall Hospital for further assessment.”

Emergency services have been contacted for comment.
