The northbound carriageway of the M6 has since reopened, although the slip road currently remains closed for highway repair works.

Anyone with information, including dashcam footage, is asked to contact West Midlands Police via their 101 number, or on the Live Chat service on their website, quoting reference 58 of 26/1/26.

West Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed that two ambulances, two paramedic officers, and a MERIT trauma doctor were sent to the scene, before the man was conveyed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

An ambulance spokesperson said: "On arrival, crews discovered a car that had crashed into a motorway barrier.

"There was one patient, a man, who had suffered serious injuries in the incident. Ambulance staff immediately began administering advanced life support, which continued enroute to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham.

"However, shortly after arrival at the hospital, it sadly became apparent that nothing could be done to save the man, and he was confirmed deceased."
