Staffordshire Police say the driver of an Audi had attempted to escape being blocked in by their vehicles on the stretch of the motorway by ramming into them in the early hours of this morning (January 26).

When that failed, the suspect 'violently' resisted arrest. Officers say a large amount of drugs were found.

In a post on X, the force's Road Crime Team shared a picture of the scene with the caption: "The driver of this Audi attempted to ram his way out of our box this morning on the M6

"Luckily PD IKO was on hand to assist us arresting the driver as he violently struggled with us. On searching the vehicle a large amount of drugs was discovered."

The vehicle was seized as part of Operation Lightning - a  dedicated operation focusing on road safety, helping to make Staffordshire's roads safer.

It aims to reduce the number of deaths and serious injuries on the roads and to disrupt and deter criminals from using the road network.
