Three people have been injured in a collision involving a double-decker bus and a van in Birmingham.

West Midlands Ambulance Service have announced that three people have been injured after a collision involving a double-decker bus and a van in Birmingham last night.

West Midlands Ambulance Service received multiple 999 calls reporting a collision had occurred on Coventry Road, Small Heath, shortly after 6pm on Monday, January 5.

Two ambulances and two paramedic officers responded to the scene.

On arrival, paramedics found a double-decker bus, with around 30 passengers on board, which had been involved in a crash with a lorry.

The bus driver, a man, was assessed by paramedics and treated for potentially serious injuries; he was then transported to Heartlands Hospital for further care.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "Ambulance staff arrived to find a double-decker bus, with around 30 passengers on board, which had collided with a van.

“The bus driver, a van, was assessed by paramedics and given trauma care for potentially serious injuries. He was then conveyed to Heartlands Hospital for further care."

As well as the driver, two bus passengers, a man and a woman, were also treated by ambulance staff, with both being taken to the hospital for further checks.

The spokesperson added: “Two bus passengers, a man and a woman, also received assessment by ambulance staff. They were both taken to the same hospital for further precautionary checks.

“Thankfully, the remaining passengers and van occupants were uninjured."
