Smethwick man charged over Christmas Eve knife point robbery in Birmingham

A Smethwick man has been charged in connection with a knife point robbery in Birmingham.

Police were called after a woman had her mobile stolen in Lower Trinity Street on Christmas Eve.

A West Midlands Police spokesman said: "We've charged a man following a knifepoint robbery in Birmingham city centre. We responded to a woman having her mobile phone stolen in Lower Trinity Street during the early hours of December 24.

"A 26-year-old man was arrested the same morning on suspicion of robbery. Mohammed Bahlwan from Smethwick has since been charged and was remanded to appear at Birmingham Magistrates Court on Boxing Day.

"We’re running #SaferStreetsWinter as part of our ongoing work to crackdown on crime and anti-social behaviour in the city. We've officers on duty 24/7 to catch crime suspects and keep visitors, residents and workers in the city centre safe."
