Engineers used festive rail closure to finish refurbishment of key Stafford bridge
Network Rail engineers have completed its refurbishment of the Newport Road bridge at Stafford Railway Station.
Thousands of vehicles cross the bridge during rush hour every day and Network Rail spent £5 million ensuring it will serve Stafford for generations.
Taking advantage of lines being shut over the Christmas period engineers and workmen completed the refurbishment before the New Year.

Network Rail tweeted: "We’ve refurbished the A517 Newport Road bridge, over Stafford station - investing £5m to improve its reliability and maintain its lifespan.
"Work was completed earlier this morning, with trains resuming after the Christmas break in glorious winter sunshine."

A rare 21 day closure of a 50 mile stretch of the West Coast Mainline in August allowed £12.5 million improvements from Stone to Stoke-on-Trent.
Tracks were renewed, points, bridges and viaducts were also improved to prevent crumbling infrastructure causing cancellations and delays.
