15 'underdogs' waiting in Dogs Trust kennels for their 'fur-ever' homes this festive season
As Christmas lights twinkle across the West Midlands and festive cheer fills the streets, a different kind of anticipation lingers at Dogs Trust Kenilworth.
Inside the shelter, dozens of dogs wait patiently for the gift they’ve been dreaming of all year: a loving home.
With the holiday season often sparking a surge in adoptions, the dedicated staff and volunteers are hoping that this Christmas, more tails than ever will wag their way into families ready to give them a second chance.
Here the Express & Star takes a look at some of the pooches - dubbed 'underdogs' - that are waiting for new homes in the West Midlands this festive season.
Nash

Breed: Greyhound
Age: 5–7 years
Sex: Male
May live with: Secondary school age children (12+)
Nash is a loving, gentle greyhound who enjoys a calm routine, relaxing on the sofa, and is happy being left alone for short periods with some comfort and background noise. He can get overexcited around food and prefers not to share, so he suits a patient home where he can be the only pet and settle at his own pace.
Rory

Breed: Lurcher Cross
Age: 2–5 years
Sex: Male
May live with: Secondary-school-age children (older/16+ preferred)
Rory is a lively, affectionate lurcher-cross boy who has missed out on some early socialisation, so walks can still feel overwhelming and he’s working on manners and confidence with calm dogs. He loves being around people, needs support settling into home life with positive guidance, and would thrive as the only pet in a patient home where he’s not left alone much.
Captain Porkchop

Breed: Lurcher
Age: 2–5 years
Sex: Male
May live with: No other pets or children
Captain Porkchop is a loving, gentle lurcher with a sensitive nature who enjoys play and affection but can find new environments a bit overwhelming. He flourishes in a calm, adult-only home where he can build confidence at his own pace and slowly get used to being left alone.
Milo

Breed: Bichon Frise
Age: 5–8 years
Sex: Male
May live with: One other dog
Milo is an affectionate, small Bichon Frise who enjoys gentle walks, exploring the garden, and being part of a calm, quiet home with patient people. He’s working on new skills like muzzle and crate training, can share his home with one other dog, and prefers someone who can be with him most of the time as he can feel distressed when left alone.
Milly

Breed: Terrier (Staffordshire Bull)
