'We want to help every young person access the opportunities they deserve' - West Bromwich school community braves the cold
Students and staff from a West Bromwich school braved freezing temperatures to raise over £1,700 for a Birmingham based charity.
The group from George Salter Academy numbered 35 students and 12 staff members bedded down from 6pm to 6am with hundreds of others at Millennium Point in Birmingham as part of St Basil's Big Sleep Out.
It was the fifth consecutive year a group from the school - part of Ormiston Academies Trust - have taken part and this time they raised £1,774.45. They formed the largest school group in attendance.

Running since 1990, the Big Sleep Out brings communities together to raise vital funds for young person who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
St Basils works across the Midlands to provide safety, stability and the specialist support needed to help young people develop the confidence and skills needed to build brighter futures.
The funds raised by the group will help provide 111 safe nights at St Basils, offering secure accommodation, personal development opportunities and practical support to help young people move towards independence.
Rupi Bellingham, head of school said: “The work St Basils do is incredibly important, and we are so proud of our students and staff for once again coming together to support young people facing homelessness.
"Taking part in the Big Sleep Out helps our community understand the challenges many young people experience and reinforces our commitment to supporting those across Birmingham who need it most.
" As a key part of the local community, we remain dedicated to helping every young person access the opportunities they deserve.”
