Man rushed to hospital following Stourbridge crash after 'suspected medical episode' at the wheel

A man has been rushed to hospital after a crash blocked a road in Stourbridge.

The crash on Stourbridge's Ring Road at around 1.23pm is said to have taken place after a driver, a man, suffered a 'suspected medical episode' at the wheel. 

West Midlands Ambulance Service said that the man was in a serious condition following the incident and was conveyed to New Cross Hospital under emergency conditions.

An ambulance service spokesperson said: "We were called to reports of an RTC [road traffic collision] at the junction of Bath Road and St John's Road in Stourbridge at 1.23pm and sent an ambulance, two paramedic officers, the WMAS Critical Care Car and a Community First Responder to the scene. 

"On arrival, crews found the driver, a man, in a serious condition following a suspected medical episode at the wheel. 

"He received treatment from ambulance staff before being conveyed to New Cross Hospital under emergency driving conditions."

West Midlands Roads warned of congestion following the crash, saying that Hagley Road and Enville Road both experienced heavy traffic following the incident.

The road has since been cleared, with the roads authority advising that 'traffic is returning to normal'.
